Plans to remove the top two floors of the arrivals hall at Jersey Airport for safety reasons have been put forward.

Jersey Airport - Asbestos RemovalAirport authorities said the floors were beyond economical repair and asbestos cladding had to removed from them.

If approved, work would start in the autumn and would be expected to finish in time for next year’s summer season.

The authorities said the airport would continue operating as normal with no disruption to the people who use it.

Under international safety laws, the building is too close to the runway and causes an obstruction and authorities said this work would go some way to addressing the safety concerns.

The air traffic control offices were housed there, but are moving to a newly-built tower.
